Test raid on General Nirtox

Post by tgjensen » Fri Nov 20, 2015 11:35 am

This Sunday at 2 PM GMT I would like to test a tactic on General Nirtox in Perpetual Wastelands.

Nirtox is a notoriously hard raid boss, and as far as I know no froobs have ever killed her. This is at least partly due to her rather nasty bag of tricks, including area nukes, stuns and debuffs - and of course the fact that she'll warp people halfway across the zone to a dyna camp in the north-western corner of Perpetual Wastelands!

Listed below are some of the nukes Nirtox will cast during battle:

Vision From Above
On Use Target Teleport Perpetual Wastelands X:1347, Y:3067, Z:50
Chat Text You feel space bend around you as General Nirtox says: Begone from my sight!

Crown of Ice

Target AOE 25m
On Use Target Modify Sensory improvement -315
Target Modify Matter metamorphosis -315
Target Modify Biological metamorphosis -315
Target Modify Psychological modifications -315
Target Modify Matter creation -315
Target Modify Time and space -315

Implosion
Target AOE 30m
Target Hit Health Fire -1800 .. -3376
Description: You are stunned.
Duration 5 seconds

Thanks to the AoE nukes, debuffs and stuns Nirtox can really wreak havoc if the tank loses aggro - and that is bound to happen thanks to the fact that Nirtox will warp the tank away! So what I propose is that we try and tank her with three enforcers simultaneously. Aggro might flicker initially, but hopefully it'll settle into a 'pecking order' soon enough, to make the doctors' job easier. When Nirtox starts warping the tank away, the next enforcer can take over immediately. The question is whether the tanks can maintain aggro even after having been warped.

We'll obviously also need an engineer at a safe distance to warp the enforcers back, so they can run right back in and resume tanking.
Likewise, we'll need a Meta-Physicist for mocham's for the docs and enforcers, as well as a trader to chain-cast team wrangle for the enforcers. They are bound to be nanoskill debuffed at least some of the time.

For everybody else - including the doctors and DD - it'd be best to keep a minimum distance of 30 meters at all times. If you are melee you are welcome to join in, but priority is to keep the tanks alive.

I'm not really setting out in the hopes of actually killing General Nirtox. Rather, it's just a test to see whether the strategy is viable. So if we can just get the core personnel together - the tanks, the docs and the most vital buffers - then I'd be happy :)

I think 2pm GMT is 6am my local time (USA Pacific Coast), so I'll pass. BTW, Adventies in dragon morph form are viable tanks now.

I don't have data from Nirtox, but other two Dustie General have same damage profile and I think Nirtox is similar. Half of the damage is Chemical and half is Energy. However the Chemical hits are rare but three times as big. In old days DB generals would hit 7k+ Chemical crits, which could easily surprise doctors. I don't think crits are a problem anymore, but I would still advice wearing a reflection bracer against Chemical damage.

Overall the only difficult thing is the warp. We had about 4 hour fight with him once and got him to 50% of health several times. But we only had one engineer and tank. Tanks, docs and engineers all need replacements in case they get warped away.

I remember some saying that the warp is actually a proc in his attacks, which means that kite tanking could work to some extend! Never tried but I always felt that softies who ran in circles took much longer to get warped away than the tank standing still.

We did not kill Nirtox, but it wasn't because of poor tactics. In fact it worked quite well: Despite frequent stuns and warps, we managed to go at it for more than an hour. An attentive trader made sure the tanks had team wrangle running at (almost) all times, so casting mongo was not a problem. The few times Nirtox lashed out the rest of the raiders were quick to react and pull to safety until the tanks got the General under control again.

What did prevent us from killing the General was her resetting. Apparently poor pathing, or some glitch in her aggro management would cause her to infrequently stop up or run off and heal up to full health again. This didn't happen often: The first time was after we'd reduced her to 50% health, the second time after maybe 10-15% health and the third and final time was at 50% again. Throughout this we didn't wipe, which is why the fight dragged on for as long. I don't know what we can do about that. It's possible we could kill her with just more people to do damage faster.

Other interesting facts we learned:

Two doctors should be sufficient. We had three, and they had no problems keeping the enforcers alive.

General Nirtox seems to have some partial immunity to chemical damage. Using a Blood Bat (chemical dmg( and a Blood Mace (energy dmg), the Bat did about half as much damage as the Mace, despite being very similar in their profiles.

She will occasionally warp you to her. This is very convenient right after she warped you across the map - just don't count on it.

General Nirtox will also cast a couple of nukes:

melee 2% of damage with 346 hits of 17-847 average 338
melee (crit) 0% of damage with 17 hits of 217-824 average 671
melee (glance) 0% of damage with 7 hits of 63-295 average 185
melee (nano) 2% of damage with 57 hits of 666-2854 average 2117
radiation (nano) 2% of damage with 42 hits of 2182-3533 average 3084

Edit: In case you wonder why it matters - for tanks this means that Bracer of Reflection Energy and Physics are pretty powerful in this raid. Or if you want to optimize for DPS then Bracer of Shielding Energy instead of the Reflection Physics.

Do not underestimate the power of shields as raid tank!

Darn, missed it but seems quite possible. More dps? A way to stop her from de agging and regaining health? Viable questions though I'm sure they've been asked before.
