Upgrading to new engine

Post by keune » Thu Mar 28, 2019 12:10 am

After watching recent caloss2 videos, I saw him on new engine entering Rome Red without crashing. He did it several times and did not crash. Yesterday I got confirmation from another player that caloss2 suggestions helped to prevent the new engine from crashing. So now I am considering the new engine as well. The question is: what to do with AOIA+?
1. Download and install AO_new in a new folder.
2. Install dovve GUI.
3. Copy Prefs folder from old engine?
4. Copy AOIA+ (at work atm, don't remember the version number, but a bit older one) to a new folder to bind to the new engine?
5. Watch caloss2 videos (New server No.8 and No.9 IIRC) and take notes :)

There is a new version of AOIA now available that works with both old and new client installed. It even allows you to play in high resolution (old client). Amazing!

Yup I just went back to the classic. The new engine was way to crashy for me even after doing the fixes Caloss2 suggested.

On single instance I do not crash, at all. On dual logged - mouse lag is not nice. But AOIA+ is super nice to work with both, old and new, installed on the same computer, so if I solo - I load new client, if team is formed - I switch to old.
