You're only as useful or as useless as you make yourself to be. And I guess you should read the two threads RIGHT BELOW THIS ONE about not-kiting as a NT. Or not make stupid assumptions at a low level range.

I really hope English isn't your first language. From my post here:

Re: Don't burn me at the stake just yet....
Well playing NT as a froob i can say that NT has the potential to be in the 3 top DDs in teams, but unlike other proffasions (soldiers/Enfos/MAs) it requires some planning, such as what nukes to use for each scenario. + if you use MC moch you can really upgrade your DD and easily be top DD at low levels. and using evades is very good strategy as NT too. you get blinds to lower mobs ar, you can switch to full deff early on with the 6ith nano inits decker and you get the dark movment wich is awesome.... so i wouldnt say we lack defense nor dd... its just not easy to play without pre-planning i say..raynevalco wrote:i was playing my NT awhile ago and it was just after playing another free mmo and i was just thinking that AOs version of a magic damage dealer kinda blows. it seems that the only way to play it is by kiting. which kinda sucks because i thought a "magic" user would do massive damage like one hit things at lower lvls and have serious DPS at later lvls but it seems that when im in a team my single damage nukes take upward of 5 seconds to cast at lvl 70 and everyone else is doing the same damage in 2 sec. now is it just me or does our only fully nano using class seem a little like just an xp farmer?

ray,
posting your opinion and slamming someone elses opinion are 2 different things.
Taras reply to your slam was not an opinion either, it was a response that destroyed your slam, backed up by quotes.
opinions dont attempt to assassinate the other person, they relate your feeling about an agreed upon subject.
2 opposing opinions can co-exist because they belong to 2 different people.
Now,
apologize to Tara and we can get back on topic.

Does that mean you're PC++'ing? Yes, I believe it is. And there are ways to voice disagreement, yes. And this thread is kinda pointless, yes. Hoping Z or EDTA chime in with their NT thoughts.

Re: Don't burn me at the stake just yet....
Personally I merely kited at low levels, though I did quite some totw and foremans as well. It's really too long ago to remember if I was any good and if I wasn't being a newb is also to blame. I do believe - from reading Ironox topic - that not-kiting at lower levels also works and it looks like a lot of fun. However, I do believe it makes things more complicated and if you don't know NT already (or at least the game pretty well), I don't see it happening properly.
At later levels I have to agree with Tarra's topic that it is very possible. Since there is not much to kite anymore, you get forced to it as well
.
About NT as damage dealer: reading Ironox' post I do believe we can do better then we generally do. Our ability to tank/get agro doesn't just come from our damage though: nukes have a big taunt to them which is 'helping' a lot. Survival isn't easy though: I don't get how Ironox is doing it (I think kill-before-killed and some crowd control), but at later levels evades and nullity sphere works. In my case the high damage and the kill-before-killed strategy, that is characteristic of magic users in other games, only started at lvl 185-195. But at lvl 200 in my glass-canon setup, it definitely is there.
One thing that makes magic users so much more interesting in AO is that magic is not just damage: there is also efficient crowd control and debuffs and a lot of different ones too. Sure, other games have them too, but they usually only last a couple of seconds. I really miss proper crowd control when playing other games.

Whats to chime in when there already has been fundamental truth'es (?) stated... ?
On almost every TL5+ raid Idef provides us with detailed damage logs, and EDTA beats almost everyone (including me, provided i am around) since he hit TL6 on the list. I am slacking in terms of DPS twinking, yeah.

Fact is, the OP seems to be pretty noobish in terms of playing an NT: There is far more than AoE Kiting or smashing the holy trinity hotkey. Roots/Blinds/Calms (for adds)/NS Tankage or Evades/nukes with debuffs... I am sure some of this stuff is still an uncharted land to you, raynevalco.
A friendly advice (actually two): Learn to play your profession. And don't mess with Tara
