Troubled on weapon choices

Post by agentkeep47 » Sat Jul 05, 2008 11:37 am

Okay, i just started to realize as a lvl 70 keeper i was falling behind in the damage department. I would get to a lvl 90 mob and be able to kill it with 25% hp left. But i tried on a ql 124 Tangleblade and all of a sudden i was hitting for 300-1.5k but really the results were mixed...

Attacking a lvl 90 mob with Tangleblade: took roughly 25 seconds, damage was all over the place and i ended up with 300-700 hp left (out of 2.5k)

Attacking same mob with styg: Took roughly 35 seconds, damage relatively around 600, but i ended with 400-1,000 hp (out of 2.5k)

I have AoR maxed, Reaver maxed (for the +10 2he and decent attack)

Any ideas on what weapon is better?

(my equipment: http://auno.org/ao/equip.php?saveid=109133 )(not all imps are there, just the ones i remember)

First off, Reaver is not important at level 70. Bio Shield perk line quite abit more useful.

Secondly, personal taste here, but I would go with tangleblade to make use of dimach in tough fights.

Arlight i have kept on the tange blade and at level 80 im starting to like it, although its annoying having to do hecks with my frosty then run to bor to ask for a brawl buff to put the tangle back on.

Also im starting to reset the bioshield perk, although it will take a while.

Also... Would a tangle blade last me till lets say level 150? because the max cap is 200 and im only using about 700ish

Consider the vanilla keep choices...

Sword of the Illuminated instead of tangleblade for lvl 60-100+, at 125 IS weaps (FBR/permafrost), at 130+ Exaliburs... and eventually kyr swords, ofab wolfs and finally tara blade :)

Playing a Keeper without AI or LE is a very very bad idea. AI swords make up a great part of a keeper's arsenal, that part can't really be filled by anything else... Not with comparable results, anyway.

no LE/AI still allows you to have SoTI and CoTE. and tara sword. And RK stuff.

This is like saying that an Advy with just SL can buy a Scimitar of Spetses instead of Axes. I'm just pointing out that AI blades provide a cheap and easy solution at almost any level range - SL has no easy-to-get weapons for most profs, except maybe the perennium profs at the low-mid level range.

Rk stuff is nice to a point, but you show up at a TL7 team with an FBR and you're gonna get booted so fast your head's gonna spin.

Hi,
Rolled a Atrox Keeper on RK2 have AI and LE, lvl 56 now, got a Stygian Desolator on at 41, from what I am reading above I should get a sword of the illumating. now.. well from what I can see those are running 100-180mil in GM. Something of a problem if I am correct (not online atm) so other then Typed AI weapons what else should I be looking for till I can get into IS?

IMO, nothing.

You don't actually need anything other than a Frost Scythe for hecks and a Styg for all other content. You could go for a Kyr'ozch Sword - Type 112 if you have the creds (Type 112 is used for a number of weapons pushing the price up a little) but it isn't really necessary. In fact a Frost Scythe is probably the weapon of choice for the next few levels whilst you bang rocks, with a Flurry of Blows you'll solo Core/Brawl hecks with ease. Spiders/Tiigs/Devourers in Ely are probably best handled with a Styg for the faster weapon speed and FA cycle.

Other alternatives are the Sacrosanct Sword Staff/Inamorata Naginata which can be upgraded twice. But aren't massively superior to the Frost Scythe as they're still painfully slow.

Later as you approach TL5 you can make your choice between FBR and Kyr'Ozch Sword - Type 112 or even stump up for Copy of Excalibur for the low AC stuff.
Rolled a little alt on RK4. Just dinged level 1!

Using a frosty and styg until nearing tl5 is just plain silly. Especially with the cheap 880s being a decent keeper weapon while waiting for ofab or good 112

Actually, given the forthcoming changes to Parry/Riposte I'm going to change my mind.

IPing Parry/Riposte at TL3 title caps and with access to Guardian's Balance at lvl 100 is probably not all that bad an idea to equip a Type 880.
